A custom rug project shaped from two references, developed through material exploration and a fully tailored design process.

The project started with two reference images and a very open brief, giving me room to shape the direction of the rug from scratch. I developed the concept, presented the first proposal, and it was approved immediately, allowing the project to move smoothly into sampling and production.

At the beginning, the rug was intended to be a shaped piece. The idea was to include fringes that would echo the cat’s whiskers, while the overall silhouette was inspired by a highly abstracted and simplified interpretation of a stretching cat.

The sampling process was essential to ensure the client was satisfied with the materials, finishes, and colors before moving into production. The sample was approved after just one iteration.

The rug was designed through a careful material study to balance texture, depth, and contrast. It combines black wool loop at 3 mm with light blue Tencel cut pile at 5 mm and dark blue Tencel cut pile at 8 mm, creating a layered surface with both visual and tactile richness.

Once the sample was approved, we moved into production and shipping.

Here are some pictures sent by the client once the rug was shipped.
